DIRECTED FOR YOUTH INQUIRY @ CHICAGO HOME THEATER FESTIVAL SPRING 2015
ABOUT THE PLAY
Inspired by real abortion stories, Out of Silence: Abortion Stories from the 1 in 3 Campaign confronts the cacophony of polarizing political rhetoric that surrounds abortion and instead asks us to listen to the voices of women and to explore with them the situations, relationships, emotions and logistics that contextualize their decisions to seek abortion care (1 in 3 - click to get involved).
Alyssa directed five 5-minute plays from Out of Silence, and through the artistic endeavor, furthered ICAH's parntership with Advocates for Youth in Chicago, pulling audiences toward these women and their stories. Performed at the Chicago Home Theater Festival, an incredibly diverse audience experienced the plays intimately, in hyper-close proximity to each other and to the characters' complex, care-full, fully lived lives.
